St. David’s Day in North Wales

As we endure these cold, wintry days, many of us are looking forward to getting out and about to enjoy the first days of Spring.

St. David’s Day on the 1st of March is the perfect time to celebrate the arrival of the warmer months and all that makes North Wales great; a rich culture, beautiful surroundings and great food. For those staying at the Four Oaks Seafront Hotel here in Llandudno, there really is a lot of activities happening in the area if fancy getting out and about and enjoying the day.

St. David is known for his charitable nature, as he is said to have performed miracles across medieval Wales for those in need.

Here are our suggestions for getting out and about over St. David’s Day.

Wales is famed for its choirs, so there’s no better way to celebrate our great nation than by sitting in the audience as the North Wales Rugby Choir deliver a stunning repertoire of English and Welsh songs in honour of our patron saint. The performance is taking place at in the imposing Grand Hall of Penrhyn Castle from 8:00pm on the 1st of March.

Out with the Kids

Prefer to get some fresh air so your little ones can run about? Cadw has stated that it once again plans to offer free admission to all of their paid sites across Wales. Cadw’s monuments offer real insight into our past, providing us with tangible access to our heritage. We recommend visiting a North Wales castle as they stir up national fondness like no other.

The castles at Conwy, Harlech, Caernarfon and Beaumaris will all be running events such as re-enactments and face-painting, as well as having tour guides on site to connect you with the site’s history.

There is also a parade running from 10:00am through Queen’s Drive in Colwyn Bay for those wanting to remain local for the festivities.

North Wales is famed for its local produce, and what better time to treat yourself than St. David’s Day? A trip to Bodnant Welsh Food is great for the scenery you can enjoy on the drive, and they have a huge array of cheeses, local ales, pies and sweet treats that you can sample.
