Upcoming Events Near Llandudno

The few weeks after Christmas and New Year can leave us feeling rather flat, and possibly a bit fed up.  Many of us have returned to work, and the thought of parties and celebrations feels like a distant memory.

The evenings are still very much dark, and the weather hasn’t yet started improving. But that shouldn’t stop you from going out and enjoying the events and activities that North Wales has to offer.

For residents, or those staying at a Llandudno seafront hotel this month or next, there are quite a few events to keep everyone entertained during this chilly pre-spring season.

Under 20s Six Nations Championships

Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay

Friday 10th February, 7:15pm

As we all know, rugby is a huge part of Welsh culture. Year upon year, welsh fans gather together to proudly support their rather successful team.

The Welsh Rugby Union, better known as the WRU, and identified on rugby shirts everywhere in Wales from its logo of the Prince of Wales’s feathers, is hosting the Wales Under 20s Championships in Colwyn Bay this February.

At this event, you’ll get to witness some of the best upcoming rugby talent that the UK has to offer. After having won an impressive six games in a row at Parc Eirias, the Welsh players are hoping to continue their well-earned successes this year.

Tickets to the event range from £10-15, depending on whether you would prefer a standing or seated location within the stadium.|

The Record Breaking Bird Show & Big Garden Birdwatch

RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve, Llandudno Junction

Sunday 22nd January, 11am

The RSPB has an annual count of the garden birds and wildlife found in their nature reserves, and this January you can help out with it.

The Big Garden Birdwatch event is free to attend, and it’s a great way to learn how to attract wildlife and birds to your own garden. Bird and wildlife experts will be on hand to advise you on what to feed birds, how to identify them and how to best use binoculars to spot wildlife from afar.

Children will have the opportunity to design their very own bird mask, make ‘finger birds’ and mix tasty bird treats to give to the winged residents of the reserve.

The record breaking bird show will also be taking place at the same time. This family oriented interactive show taking place in the lookout will help children learn to identify a range of birds which are native to the area.

Conwy Farmers Market

RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve, Llandudno Junction

Wednesday 25th January, 9.30am onward

The first farmers market of the year is taking place this month. The Conwy Farmers Market is a regular event which is held on the last Wednesday of every month.

You’ll find a diverse range of fresh and local produce, including meat, vegetables, fruit, fish, cheese and many more.

The produce at the markets relies on the season, so you’ll find new produce to try each time you go.

It’s a great way to support local businesses that rely on local trade to produce their products.

It’s incredibly beneficial for you too, as you’re guaranteed to have fresher produce than those that are found packaged in supermarkets.

Take pART 8 Arts Festival

Venue Cymru, Llandudno

Saturday 14th January – Sunday 15th January, 10am – 4.30pm

Venue Cymru will be host to the Take pART Arts Festival for its 8th year. This two day event features arts and literature activities, including workshops, live performances and drop-in sessions.

If you’re looking for an event that will not only entertain but educate children, this is one not to be missed. There’s a performance of ‘Brainiac Live’, which shows children that science can not only be interesting, but fun too.

There will also be workshops from the creators of the very popular animations Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, where guests can create their own Shaun and Gromit models just as the animators would.

For children who enjoy doodling, Nick Sharrat will be providing a fun illustration workshop where he will be sharing his best drawing tips.
